The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of double fortification (iron and zinc) in synbiotic milk (L.plantarum Dad13 and fructooligosaccharides) on under 5 years stunted children growth, gut microbiota composition, blood zinc and hemoglobin level, and cognitive level.

In this clinical equivalency trial, two foods will be compared for the treatment of SAM, testing the hypothesis that the difference in recovery rates and growth between the two test groups will be no greater than 5 percent.

This will be a randomised, double-blinded, controlled clinical equivalency trial assessing the treatment of SAM with one of two therapeutic foods until the child is recovered or for a period of up to 12 weeks.

Assessing program efficacy of under five food supplementation (PMT Biscuits) is needed after the first 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding, children were introduced to liquid and semi-solid food. In this phase of food introduction, children ability to accept food supplementation program was still questionable and the efficacy needs to be assessed.

In Ghana, low micronutrient intakes among pregnant women are a major problem. The standard nutritional intervention during pregnancy is iron-folic acid tablets, but adherence is low. The investigators have pioneered the use of multiple micronutrient-fortified semi-solid pastes called Lipid-based Nutrient Supplements (LNS) (made using vegetable oil, groundnut, milk, sugar, and micronutrients), and the investigators' previous studies show that the approach could have great potential for use by pregnant and lactating women.

Multiple micro-nutrient deficiencies in Pakistan is wide spread, there is dire need to address these by using smart solutions, among them multiple fortified product (fudge) is an alternate possible way to address this issue. Fortified products have the potential to reduce micronutrient deficiencies in children, therefore in current study children from 3-5 years will receive fortified product along with enhance nutrition promotional information to bring change in their dietary practices and nutritional indices.

The health risks and costs associated with malnutrition can be significantly reduced if symptoms are recognized early and treated effectively. Oral nutritional supplements (ONS) have been shown to increase nutrient intakes and maintain or improve nutritional status and functional outcomes in patients in a variety of settings. However despite this it is frequently reported that compliance to ONS, which are often milk based drinks, is poor. The aim of the present study is to assess the effectiveness of a new biscuit style nutritional supplement in the management of malnutrition.

The aim of this open-label randomized controlled trial conducted in four African countries (Madagascar, Niger, Central African Republic and Senegal) is to compare three strategies of renutrition for moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) in children based on modulation of the gut microbiota with enriched flours alone, enriched flours with prebiotics or enriched flours coupled with antibiotic treatment. Cognitive development of children (Senegal) will also be studied and compared.
